Mary Washington Holmes, 69, of Johns Island, SC, passed away peacefully on September 28th surrounded by her loved ones. 

Born on December 23, 1954 on Johns Island, she was the cherished daughter of the late Catherine Washington Bellinger and Ernest Bellinger. Mary was known for her caring demeanor, faith and strength and she touched the lives of everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Mary attended Benjamin Franklin High School in New York City where she graduated in 1973. After over 30 years of dedication she retired from the SC Dept of Health and Environmental Control. Throughout her life she remained committed to her church community and caring for loved ones. Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and her memory will forever be cherished by her husband, Ronald V. Holmes was united in holy matrimony on June 18, 1983, daughters, Chanequa N. Washington, TaNisha B. Holmes and grandchildren DaQuan Karnickey, Charles Gibbs and Nicolas Gibbs. She is also survived by her siblings Annette Bellinger Johnson (Charles), Ernest Bellinger II, Quentin Bellinger and Julian Bellinger (Bonita Courman) and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Roper St Francis, medical staff, hospice caregivers, or others who helped during her illness for their compassionate care and support. 

Viewing will take place on Friday, October 4th at Dickerson Mortuary at 4700 Rivers Ave. N. Charleston, SC, 29405 from 5 p.m.- 7 p.m.. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 5th 2024 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. Interment: St. Peter's Cemetery
